Haunted House

With the One Act Play season soon getting underway at LeRoy-Ostrander Schools, Director Dawn Holmquist will host a special haunted house fundraiser to raise money for her group of students to help with the season’s expenses. The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 5-8 p.m. at the Humanities 101 theater on Main Street.

“I have always enjoyed Halloween and haunted houses and have often thought it would be fun to run one,” Holmquist says.

That dream recently received a boost after her brother-in-law, who is a Lions Club member in Cocoran, told Holmquist that the club was closing its long-standing haunted house. Holmquist received many items from the project and could start planning her open house.

“Initially, I was going to have it in my basement, which is truly scary, but I decided it would be better to have it in the theater,” she says and adds that the haunted house also replaces the fall play she originally wanted to produce again but couldn’t do it due to extensive traveling.

Holmquist also says she quickly realized that the haunted house could be a good fundraiser for this year’s One Act Play Team.

“I decided to recruit students to create some fun and spooky characters,” she says.

Haunted Hause visitors should expect a “frighteningly good time” with parental discretion advised for younger children. Holmquist also stresses that those with certain medical conditions should be warned that strobe lights and fog will be used.

The cost is $5 per person. Additional donations will be accepted. Visitors should enter the Haunted House at the back of the building at 111 East Main Street.

Holmquist says that she has selected this season’s One Act Play but that she can’t reveal the title until the rights have been purchased.
