How to support LeRoy flood victims

(LeRoy, Minn.) — Heavy rainfall on Wednesday, July 8, caused significant flooding throughout LeRoy, leaving many homes and businesses with flooded basements and extensive property damage.

Among those hardest hit were three homes along 775th Avenue, just north of the Iowa state line. The families of Josh and Cassie Seibert, Lisa and Memphiz Gomez, and Riley Hansen are now facing substantial recovery efforts. Community members who would like to help can support the following donation efforts.

JOSH AND CASSIE SEIBERT FAMILY

Josh and Cassie Seibert and their children, Landyn and Carter, lost much of what they own after 1 to 2 feet of floodwater rushed through the main floor of their home. Most belongings on the first floor were destroyed, with only items on the second floor escaping damage. The family also lost their food trucks and many other vehicles. They are currently staying with relatives in Rochester.

While the family’s immediate clothing and shoe needs have been met, financial donations are being accepted at:

  • First State Bank Minnesota
  • First National Bank – LeRoy

Donations may also be dropped off at LeRoy City Hall. The Seibert Family also has a GoFundMe page.

 

Floodwater destroyed the Seibert family’s kitchen and much of the home’s main floor.

 

LISA AND MEMPHIZ GOMEZ FAMILY

Lisa and Memphiz Gomez also suffered devastating losses. Their home and a family vehicle were submerged by floodwaters, resulting in extensive damage. In addition, the family is still searching for their missing cat, Pricella.

RILEY HANSEN

Riley Hansen’s home sustained severe structural damage when floodwaters caused part of the home’s foundation to collapse. He is also dealing with damage to his water heater, furnace and HVAC system.

A NOTE ABOUT THE CITY’S ROLE

Several residents have asked whether the City of LeRoy can accept general monetary donations and distribute them to families affected by the flooding.

While the City is not able to collect or administer charitable donations on behalf of residents, it is committed to helping share verified fundraisers and donation opportunities so community members can directly support families recovering from this disaster.

The City extends its gratitude to everyone who has already offered assistance and encourages those who are able to continue supporting their neighbors during the recovery process.
