Community members, visitors invited to Memorial Day activities

(LeRoy, Minn.) — Community members and visitors are encouraged to attend the following Memorial Day events:

Memorial Day Services

Members of American Legion Post #161 will hold three ceremonies:

  • 8:45 a.m.: LeRoy Veterans Memorial
  • 9:15 a.m.: LeRoy Trailhead (Sea Tribute)
  • 10 a.m.: LeRoy Cemetery

These ceremonies will include presentations of colors, invocations, poems, songs, readings, a firing squad tribute, taps and more.

Cemetery Walk & Luncheon

The LeRoy Area Historical Society (LAHS) will hold its 8th annual Cemetery Walk and Luncheon at First Presbyterian Church following the 10 a.m. Memorial Day Service at the LeRoy Cemetery. The event will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the Cemetery Walk talks starting at noon in the sanctuary.

The luncheon includes BBQ sandwiches, chips, potato salad, bars and beverages.

Presenters include Bernard Brownlow and Bob Brownlow of the Red Owl grocery store, and Roger and Pauline Fister who worked for the U.S. Postal Service and supported all community events. Organizations that will be featured are the Meighen-Thompson American Legion Post #161 and the Auxiliary with stories about the lives of Meighen and Thompson.

Free-will donations will be accepted for a $2,500 matching grant from the Modern Woodmen of America Insurance Company to be used for museum cataloging materials, including a computer, copy machine, camera, etc.

LeRoy History Books and LAHS memberships will be available.
