The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has reopened East Main Street from Everett Street to Ada Street. The road had been closed since April 29 as part of the Highway 56 reconstruction project.
The East Main Street closure marked the beginning of the $10 million project and included a reconfiguration of the “East Y” intersection. The new layout features a traditional four-way stop without the additional side road that used to connect East Main Street and 775th (Dale) Avenue.
The reconfigured intersection is shown in the photos below, looking north from 775th (Dale) Avenue:
The previous side road was replaced with a dead-end road primarily intended for access to adjacent homes.
Meanwhile, work continues on West Main Street with an ongoing road closure from South Mather Street to County Road 56. MnDOT anticipates completing this stretch at the end of August, weather permitting.
The photos below shows a portion of the ongoing construction near St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.
Once West Main Street reopens, crews will work on the final stretch of Highway 56 reconstruction, which will affect Main Street from South Mather Street to Everett Street downtown.
Residents are reminded that the old railroad bed south of Main Street is not a through-street to reach businesses west of the construction zone. Adjacent homeowners have witnessed many vehicles attempting to drive through and then turning around in residential backyards. In addition, drivers should also not cross over temporary water lines.
Residents and business owners affected by construction can continue to contact Trevor Munich at 507-272-3142 with questions or concerns.
